It’s been quite a while since I’ve written here. Last time I wrote, I was still studying abroad in Aix-en-Provence. I was in my fourth year of university, enjoying a year in Europe before returning to school, papers, concerts and work.
In the nearly two years since I last wrote, I’ve…
- Worked at a wine bar
- Traveled back to France to taste pinot noir
- Spent a week in Hawaii with my choir buddies
- Performed my senior recital
- Graduated from university
- Supported my parents through two major illnesses
- Moved to France on a semi-permanent basis to teach English
My life has been so full, not just in terms of what has come to pass but in in how I have grown. I won’t waste time rhapsodizing right now, but suffice to say that I am a different person than the one who last wrote here.
For now, though, here’s the current scoop. I’m teaching English in a vocational high school near Bordeaux. I live on the high school’s campus with three other language teachers, all from different countries. Our only communal language is French. I’ve joined a choir. I’ve traveled lots in the past few months and had several friends from the states come to visit. And I’m seriously considering staying for another year.
I’m not sure why now is the right time to start writing here again. I do know that it has something to do with how far I find myself from home. And that I want the photos I take to live somewhere other than Facebook albums and Snapchat stories. I like traveling, I like being an expat, I like sharing my experiences living in far away places. So if you’re coming back to read for the first time or for the hundredth time, well…thanks for stopping by.
I am thrilled that you are back to writing! When I read your posts, it’s as though I am there with you. I feel your emotions and I hear your heart speaking to me. You are a beautiful person in so many ways. I hope you continue to write so all of us can enjoy your travels with you.
